A floor lamp, after a meteor. A glowing sphere hangs beneath a metal disc, like an eclipse. Rose-gold metal, black marble, hand-crafted opal glass.

The image was a meteor crossing the Milky Way: one bright body, one dark one, and the moment they line up. A sphere of hand-crafted opal glass hangs beneath a metal disc, so from most angles the light looks like an eclipse, and the whole top of the lamp seems to float.
Three materials, each doing one job. Rose-gold finished metal for the arc and disc, because it warms the light it reflects. Black marble for the base, because the top needed something heavy and quiet underneath it. Opal glass for the sphere, because it turns a point source into a soft, glare-free surface without a diffuser you can see.
The LED is low-glare and warm. The parts are durable and recyclable, and the lamp comes apart the way it went together. A sculptural object that still has to pass as a reading light was the whole brief.
